Introduction to the Arts (multidisciplinary)
This semester interdisciplinary course for freshmen encourages the development of basic applied and perceptual skills through exposure to the visual arts, architecture, music, dance, and drama. Structured experiences in the arts, both on campus and through the Washington Program, are a major aspect of the course. The course offers a weekly tour and is team-taught by arts faculty. (one-half credit)
Acting 1
This course leads the student actor into a deeper understanding of both the art and craft of acting. Daily exercises and improvisations focus on internal and external character development with continuing emphasis on voice and diction, movement and script, and character analysis. Students prepare and present several scripted scenes and monologues, attend area theater productions, and write detailed criticisms. Participation in EHS theater productions is encouraged. (one-half credit)
Acting 2
Acting 2 is for the serious acting student who wants to hone his craft, and will focus almost exclusively on scene work and monologues. Multiple scenes, monologues, and a fully-staged one-act play are possibilities for the showcase at the end of the course. Attendance at live theater and workshops when possible. Prerequisite: Acting 1. (one-half credit)
