Washington Program

Episcopal High School’s unique Washington Program provides students with exciting educational opportunities outside of the traditional classroom.

The program encourages learning through individual projects and tour trips including the National Gallery of Art, the National Air and Space Museum, the Islamic Center, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and many other local points of interest. These cultural and educational excursions off campus enhance their knowledge of architecture, media, diplomacy, government, religion, art, music, theater, and public service.

The program's Senior Seminar offers an opportunity for seniors in good standing to participate in various types of work and service projects in the local area. During the final three to four weeks of their senior year, participating students are excused from regular classes to work daily in the local area, in a field of particular interest to them.

Students who participate in the Senior Seminar must maintain an extensive log of their daily activities, which becomes the basis of a final paper, and a substantial interview and oral examination that is presented to a committee of faculty members at the conclusion of the program.

Contact Us

It is our goal to get the entirety of the EHS community involved in the Washington Program in a variety of different ways.  For example, parents and alumni may know someone interested in interacting with our students on some level or hosting an EHS Senior Seminar intern during May.  Alumni in particular might also reflect back on their own Washington experiences at EHS and provide ideas for academic tours or new avenues of cultural outreach.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with this sort of input, questions or requests for additional information.
