Julie has extensive experience teaching English in China and Chinese in America. She was a college lecturer in China for over 10 years and has spent seven years in the United States as a speech analyst, Chinese legal translator, computer teacher, and Mandarin Chinese teacher. For two years, Julie was a Mandarin Chinese instructor at Montclair State University, where she incorporated her language background, cultural knowledge, and technological know-how into her classroom teaching. She believes that her role as an educator at EHS is not just about teaching Chinese language and culture. “I need to encourage students’ natural curiosity and help facilitate the development of creative and critical thinking, skills that will prepare individual students for their future beyond the Episcopal classrooms. The seeds are planted here, and what students learn and how they learn it will form the basis for their future education.”In addition to teaching Mandarin Chinese, she also teaches a social studies course called Understanding Modern China. Julie is an advisor, works on the yearbook and the fitness program, and serves on the Evans Dorm team. She lives on campus with her husband, Michael.
