Aleta B. Richards

Prior to coming to EHS, Aleta was in private practice in Alexandria for many years. She has also taught sociology and social work at several universities in the Washington, D.C., area. Aleta has extensive experience in working with families and a special interest in working with young women. Her dissertation was based on research conducted at Chatham Hall and focused on moral development in adolescent girls.

At Episcopal, Aleta serves as the assistant director of counseling, working with students individually and in group meetings. She also teaches two senior elective courses in psychology and sociology. She is a faculty advisor, member of the Hoxton Dorm team, and serves on the committee for the Center for the Study of Girls’ Lives.

Aleta lives on campus with her husband, Bob Ellis (who is also a teacher), and their dog, Billy. In her spare time, she enjoys needlework, reading, and shopping for antiques.
