Chair of the Arts, Director of Cultural Events
M.M.Ed. James Madison University
B.S. Ball State University

“It’s hard to imagine a more perfect environment for living and learning than Episcopal and the Washington, D.C. area,” says Doug. The sense of place, purpose, and community at Episcopal is what inspired his move from a 25-year teaching career at James Madison University to a leadership role in the arts at EHS. In addition to his career teaching bassoon and interdisciplinary arts, Doug has directed study abroad programs in London, England, and Florence, Italy. At Episcopal, he coordinates the arts programs, teaches in the Performing Arts Department, serves on the activities team, and organizes the cultural activities aspect of the Washington Program.

With two degrees in music, Doug maintains an active performing life in the Washington area with groups such as the Filene Center Orchestra, National Gallery Orchestra, Kennedy Center’s Opera House Orchestra, Washington Chamber Symphony, and Washington Bach Consort. He has also participated in recent European concert tours.

Doug lives on Hoxton Dorm with his wife, Diane, their son, Peter ’08, and their dog, Tilley.
