A working artist who has lived in the Washington, D.C., area all his life, David brings painting and photography expertise, creativity, and a wealth of teaching experience to Episcopal. He has been an interior design consultant, decorative painter, and an instructor in Alexandria public schools. He has had dozens of acclaimed exhibitions of his paintings over the last 25 years. David’s work is held in many public, private, and corporate collections throughout the country, including the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the Marriott Corporation, and The Washington Post. David has recently held successful exhibitions in Atlanta, Ga., Franklin, Tenn., and Segovia, Spain. He is currently represented by the Aliya Lindstrum Gallery in Atlanta.He continues to expand his Africa Works project, a body of work inspired by his relationship with Gift Maworere ’06, who lived with David and his family while at EHS. The collection features the people and landscapes of Africa, captured during David’s travels in Zimbabwe, as well as the relationship between Gift and the Douglas family. He has shown pieces of this collection in Angie Newman Johnson Gallery and received rave reviews from The Washington Times.At EHS, David coaches varsity baseball, serves on the Berkeley Dorm team, and is the co-chair of the student assistance team. He lives on campus with his wife, Ann, and their children, Scout ’06 and Max. |
