June 24 - 28, 2012

The EHS Young Writers Workshop provides students with an intensive five-day course of instruction in written communication skills and offers multiple opportunities for students to practice public speaking. The course will focus on three types of writing: creative, persuasive, and analytical. Focused instruction will be devoted to the specific techniques of each genre. In a supportive and noncompetitive environment, students will develop their writing by dissecting the works of both published authors and their peers. Students also will have some exciting opportunities to work outside the classroom as they travel with the instructors into Washington, D.C., to use available resources as catalysts for their creative efforts. The workshop culminates with a formal reading in which the participants showcase their work; family members are encouraged to attend.
Boarding or extended day students (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.) entering grades seven through nine. Cost: $750 boarding, $600 extended day.
