León Is 2008 Theologian in Residence

In January, Rev. Luis León visited EHS as the 2008 Theologian in Residence. An immigrant from Cuba, Rev. León spoke with students in history, human geography, theology, and Spanish language classes. "Never have I met a veteran priest of 30 years with the energy to match over 400 high school students, until Mr. León," Chaplain Gideon Pollach said of the visit.

"What's more: Luis spoke confidently on subjects from T.S. Elliot to tennis, to immigration and resettlement patterns. Since his departure I've heard him quoted in sermons, pre-game pep talks and announcements at lunch. I'd say he made a great impact on all of us."

The rector of St. John's Episcopal Church Lafayette Square in Washington , D.C. , Rev. León offered the invocation at President Bush's second inauguration. He has been profiled in the Washington Post and the Associated Press because of his relationship with President Bush and previous Presidents who attended St. John's for services.

León attended the University of the South and received his Masters in Divinity Degree from Virginia Theological Seminary.
