Long-term Monitoring of Local Ecosystems
by the Freshwater & Terrestrial Ecology Classes

Long-term ecosystem monitoring is an essential component of environmental study. It allows a more intimate knowledge of the subtle changes that could alter the physical, chemical, and biological structure and function of a particular area.

In this spirit, ecology students at Episcopal High School have been examining field sites on and near campus continuously for several years. Some field sites have been monitored for a decade. This presentation as well as the data collection and brief analysis are the work of many students through the years, and we hope that the ecology students of the future will continue to contribute, learn from, and enjoy the many interesting facets of environmental study that this project has to offer.
