Holmes Run originates at Lake Barcroft, which is dammed directly off Columbia Pike. For all of its course, Holmes Run passes through residential areas and is bordered by generous amounts of deciduous forests. It ends in Alexandria, becoming Cameron Run. We visit a site about 400 meters upstream of Beauregard Street. While there, we test air and water temperature, oxygen and nitrate levels, the pH, and the alkalinity. We also collect and observe various forms of aquatic life, and examine the algae present in the stream.
